When it comes to Thyroid Health (or any other body's system), it has been established that deficiency may be the direct cause of dysfunction, especially Selenium, Zinc, Iodine, amongst others, and, that stress may be a another cause of Hypothyroidism (e.g. rT3 production), and that metabolic syndrome and thyroid health may be interlinked, as all autoimmune conditions, most often finding a common root cause: INFLAMMATION. If you suffer from any form of Autoimmune conditions, in particular, Hashimoto's, you have probably been told to avoid certain foods (if you have seen an "alternative" practitioner; but, most probably, only iodine, if you have seen your general practitioner).
The only issue is you need to drench your body with antioxidants to combat the greater release of free radicals and restriction is not the key to recovery. Indeed, you must avoid sugar at all cost. The same for gluten-containing grains (see chemical mimicry, by clicking on the link above), and most importantly, you must be in control of your sugar level at all time, and manage your stress. As without this, no protocol, no treatment, will ever offer a favourable outcome. Breaking your night fast with nutrient-dense food is a magic bullet for your body. This help the body replenish the lost nutrients and assists the constant healing and repair by bringing the necessary building blocks. A smoothie is an ideal alternative to a big breakfast, so you can add many ingredients into one large glass. You can even drink it on your way to work, especially if you are commuting early in the morning. I would recommend, however, to eat something with it, as many people feel hungry by mid-morning. Eggs for example, will allow your brain to register the food you are consuming, and sending the right signal: "I am satisfied!", feeling fuller for longer. Chewing is usually the mechanism missing in many people having a smoothie in the morning. Seed crackers can do to; chew them and enjoy them fully. Thyroid-Friendly Green Smoothie Preparation: 5 minutes Equipment: High-powered blender Recipe: Serves 1 large glass 250 ml filtered water 1 handful Kale (Spring Greens, Collards, Spinach) 1 handful Blueberries (optional) 2 tbsp Linseeds (freshly grounded, ideally sprouted) 1 tbsp Purple Broccoli sprouts 1 tbsp Organic Hemp Seed Protein powder 1 tsp Açaì Berry powder (or 2 tbsp frozen) 1 shot of Organic Aloe Vera (concentrate, unprocessed) 1 Banana (optional, only if you need the sweetness) Place all ingredients in the blender, and mix until smooth. Drink immediately, or pour into a thermos-like container. Add any other ingredients you may like. Make it yours and enjoy it truly.
