How sympathetic is the Sympathetic Mode?
The answer is: not so much!
Unless it is life saving… But on the long run, overstimulation of the Sympathetic Nervous System will not only prevent healing and repair, especially at night, with increased Cortisol levels and elevated Blood sugar, but (proper) sleep at night may become a luxury.
Activating the Sympathetic Nervous System, as explained in previous articles, can be done by generating consciously – or unconsciously – stress on the body and mind. Also remember that inflammation and pain is a stressor to the body!
Do you remember what happens when people are not getting enough sleep because their stress level is excessively high?
Adrenals keep producing Cortisol (also remember the Pregnelonone Steal and its effects), and Blood Sugar levels can never really stabilise, with very highs and very lows, and for these reasons, crashes (Hypoglycaemia, when blood sugar are too low) will lead to snacking and reaching out for food rich in sugar and other stimulants to help you keep going.
Upon rising, some people may need that "life saving" cup of coffee so that they actually can contemplate going through the morning. Reaching out for coffee several times in the day, in an attempt to “be alive” forces the body to remain in a Sympathetic State, and may also be an indication of Adrenal Fatigue; if not leading towards it.
Playing all kind of intense fighting video games, even on phone, watching horror movies, etc. does the exact same to the body, and brain, trying to keep you in a Sympathetic State.
Do you also remember what follows Adrenal Fatigue when left unchecked?
Yes you are right, Adrenal Exhaustion. The last step for a body tired to say: “STOP!”
